Im Excited!
Ok, so today I had a call from the course providers about my City & Guilds. Apparently there are not enough people enrolled on the course so they are not running it :-( BUT, I can go straight to level 2 :-D So all is good. Im very happy with that, and the tutor from my dressmaking class said I will have no problems.
I start on Monday so will have an update on how the first class went.
The other thing im excited about - Gertie's sewalong! Starting to make the muslins tomorrow! Bring it on.
Who else is looking forward to the challenge?

The Dress and my new fabric
So this is it! This is the dress I made, the very first piece I was actually able to wear. And im so chuffed. Even if I do say so myself.
I love the fabric - and I think the pattern is soo pretty, and more importantly I feel great when I wear it. Excuse my cat, she likes the camera!
This last pic is the fabric that I have bought to do the lady grey sew along. It is quite dark but the wool is actually a Navy rather than black - thats what it looks like on my monitor anyway, and the shimmery fabric I bought for the lining. I couldnt resist a little bit of glitter!!

Now all I need is for the green light so I can get started. Im sooooo excited!!!

Im back and Im a Mrs!!
Ok, I have been really rubbish of late, I got married! woohoo!
I had the most amazing day, more than I could ever imagine, and the honeymoon to Mauritius and Dubai was INCREDIBLE!!!
Anyways, the point of me writing this blog was so that I could talk about my sewing. Good and bad!!! hehe
Ok so the dress mentioned in the last post (ages ago!)was finished and I took it on honeymoon with me. Im so glad that I picked such a lightweight cotton. Im waiting on the other half to take pictures of me in it so I can post it here. But I was very happy with it.
In the time between then and now I enrolled myself on a City&Guilds course, which I start on the 21st of this month - im very excited! But, i have been doing some sewing all by myself with thanks frm Sew Mag, which now I really love and cant wait for the new mag to drop through my letterbox.
So i made a cute little jersey tie up cargidan, and it fits me. I know that is the point of making your own clothes, but each time something is finished and actually fits Im still a little surprised.
I also bought some lightweight stretch denim to make some cropped jeans also from the mag, they were going so well, I even managed to put in an invisible zip (thanks to YouTube)and it worked and you couldnt see it - until I realised that I had actually sewn it to the outside of the trousers! Am I the only one to do this??
I didnt realise I was being a muppet at the time of stitching.
So finally, just to make sure everything is all up to date - I am addicted to Gerties Blog for Better Sewing. I love her style and her quirky blog. And im doing the sew - along!
So My lady grey pattern has arrived, I have bought some wonderfully soft navy wool, and a rather fabulous lining with circles on it that has just the right amount of shimmer in it to make me feel alittle blingy! Bring on the start of the sew -along! I cant wait. If you are in the UK and wanting to join - you can get the pattern from a lovely lady called Vonnie at The Life Craft.
Anyways, im planning on getting the pictures on here tomorrow, and I totally intend to keep this up to date.
Its good for my memory.....

Almost a dress I can wear!
Ok, so been quite busy of late. Am getting married in 42 days - not that I am counting or anything!
My dress is starting to look rather pretty and im so impressed with myself. Everytime I do something extra to it, I wait around until my partner comes home and show him the next bit. 'Look, look, look, ive stitched these two pieces together today! Doesnt it look great!!''To which i receive a blank look that says " I cant tell what you have done since you last showed me"
So anyway I do actually have more than two pieces together. The whole thing is in one piece - i need to get the length of the straps right, so im relying on the fact that i need to put it on and trust a man to put pins in it! :-s and do the hem. Which I think i will be ok with. Considering that i have put the zip in and taken it out, and put it in and taken it out, i put it back in again and it seems to work.
Pictures soon! No point telling you what i have done if i cant show you!

A beginners guide to...
Hello and welcome to my Blog.
Blogging is all new to me and I dont really have much of an idea what I am doing, but thought I would give it shot. So here goes!
I have just started a dressmaking course and this is all about my journey from being a complete novice and knowing absolutely nothing and sewing. Or even how to use a sewing machine!
So anyway, the course has started, I have attended every week since the beginning and im desperate to be star student! My first piece is supposed to be some trousers which are coming along nicely. Although I have got a little ahead of myself and I am now obsessed with Amazon recently discovering that you can actually look inside the books before buying! So anyway, I bought this book - Make your own clothes by Marie Clayton. Not the most flattering patterns in the whole wide world but it was the software that came with it that persuaded my purchase.
So I started off with the drawstring shorts because I was far too impatient to not do anything all week and wait for my class. And guess what? They FIT.
I never have close that fit. I have a tiny waist which is good, but a behind that makes JLo look as flat as a pancake. So any kind of clothes that isnt in the form of an A-Line skirt or dress just does not fit.
So anyway, that s a brief introuction to what I have done to date, I have purchased New Look pattern 6557. So will keep you up dated with my progress. Wish me luck.
